With eyes open, I void by focusing on a spot on the wall or ceiling depending if I'm lying down or not. I kind of let my eyes relax and lose visual focus and don't really look at a specific spot after a moment it all blends into a sort of haziness. I have trouble explaining but I hope this helps.
