In the absence of knowledge, people fear the unknown. This could be death, the afterlife, or even the occult. All of these things arise from a lack of Knowledge. But we, who are given Knowledge, gain insight into the unknown and dispel our fears.
Brainwashing things like social media only serve to further feed Ignorance. It creates more fear and pushes us as far away from Knowledge as possible. This explains the lack of human progress - without Knowledge, man does not progress, he remains ignorant.
