For a bit of context, I'm a part of a small commerce guild (we all sell the same kind of goods) which has become the new target of criminals dedicated to extortion. We are currently doing all within our reach to protect ourselves, including contacting the authorities.

In my company, where I work, such incidents occur regularly, but in fact they are not critical (I will explain why further).
Since all the management are smart people, there are no fools, no one goes along with the scammers.
The problem with such incidents is that fraudsters pose as directors or senior officials of your company in order to try to blackmail ordinary employees of your company (to extort money, etc.), or steal confidential information (business espionage).
In the first case, scammers act independently and they do not pose a threat to business, but only to employees who are trying to steal money from.
In the second case, your competitors and competitors of your business partners resort to the services of professional scammers, as a rule, such scammers conduct their activities in such a way as to avoid legal liability and not to substitute their customers (competitors of your company and your business partners).
For my company and my business partners, the activities of scammers are not critical, because:
1. We have our own security service (called the Economic Security service for the public).
This is a special corporate service, which consists of former law enforcement and intelligence officers who have connections among the military, law enforcement agencies, judges and police, specializing in protecting our business, our shareholders, senior management and ordinary employees of our company.
2. We constantly motivate the security service using the carrot and stick method so that they work well.
In terms of gingerbread, we pay substantial bonuses for the work done, congratulations on all professional holidays (where they previously worked).
In terms of the whip, I cannot tell you, but I will only say that we convene the heads of the security service for weekly meetings (the more often the better) and update the actual problems (tasks) that they must solve within the time frame set by the top management with the provision of various weekly reports on the work done.
3. The Security Service regularly conducts briefings with ordinary employees and their supervisors on countering fraud.
4. The Security Service sends appropriate instructions, warnings and informs all employees about the activities (attempts) of fraudsters to the corporate email, and also provides all employees with contacts to contact the security service if the situation has become critical.
5. Security personnel regularly interact with law enforcement agencies, including conducting their own investigations with all the necessary licenses of private detectives, sometimes resort to not very legal methods of catching and punishing scammers, but they never get caught, i.e. they do not legally violate the law (in practice, my company and business partners have never had problems with the law, because we have a very powerful staff of lawyers).
6. Security personnel are actively fighting commercial, corporate and business espionage, identify and find out who the scammers are and who the customer is.
7. The Security Service actively interacts with partners and competitors.
Sometimes preventing business espionage by competitors helps to conduct appropriate negotiations with them (at the management level) with an explanation of the legal and other consequences if the problem persists.
8. The security service works very rigidly within the framework of the law, our security service is feared and respected by both its own and others.
I recommend that you and your business partners create your own Economic security service that will protect you, your employees and your business, or turn to the services of appropriate specialists who are available in your country.
