visualization?

I feel I haven't been as focuses as I should be with opening my soul, partially it is getting over this whole "visualizing" rut.. It's not that I get discouraged, but that I have difficulty visualizing.. Do people do it with their eyes opened, or closed? If for eyes opened, where do you focus your gaze to? If someone could give me a rundownof visualization that would be great. I can see auras and such.. So I do have the comfort that I am growing.. Thank you and sorry for the recent bombardment of questions.
