This is a very interesting film, which Maxine has listed on the JOS website also...it was made of course by Hollywood, so you have to take it all with a big grain of salt--in other words, they don't really know what true Satanism is all about--even though Anton LaVey was technical director and he also made a cameo appearance as the High Priest. But I recall he once said of this film, that Satanists have a sense of humor. That is true--this is quite funny in places. I mean, Ernest Borgnine as the "Devil"--he is so campily sinister, it is funny. At one point there is a big "boom" and he turns into this Xian wet-dream of "the devil"-- and of course it isn't what Satan looks like at all, but it's very amusing. John Travolta is pretty interesting in this film, which was his first film role. He has no eyes, so you can only identify him by his chin dimple! And his only words are, "Blasphemer! Blasphemer!" so he is pretty funny. William Shatner is as goofy as ever as the devil's main adversary. Yes it's a fun romp, this film, but to me the best part is that at the end Satan does triumph--one thing the filmmakers did get right...it's not what I'd call a great film, but it IS very interesting, esp if one is a Satanist. I've watched it twice since only having it for a couple of weeks, which probably says something...
