Saturn Magic Square!

I'm going to start a bunch of squares, and I think I know the answer to this but to double check..
-Can you start a saturn square/mars square/mercury square ect. when that planets magic square is retrograde?
-Can/should/could magic squares be done more than once? maybe not in a row but say the next year, or even in a row.. because if saturn maybe retrogrades all of the energy would be used on counteracting that in the square and not many effects for where you want it?
