I've had the idea of doing a sort of essay on this for a while now. Finally I can put it to words so we can see what some of the greatest rappers ever share in common.
Let me just state this right off the bat, I'm talking about HIP-HOP in its essence, not this fake bubble gum, lean wit it roc wit it rap you hear on the radio. I mean that classic shit, that has ill lyricism and a creative intelligence that would make you think, and examine a line in song for what the artist truly meant. Some of these artists include but not restricted to, Nas, Rakim, Krs, Tribe, Big Daddy Kane, Naughty by Nature, Pac, Big L, Big Pun, BIG, OLD Jay-z, and OLD Eminem, Gangstarr, NWA, I mean the list goes on but I hope you get the idea.
The rappers we'll be examining here now are, Nas, Big L, Tupac, Rakim, The Game, Big Pun, Tupac, and Biggie and what they all share in common in regards to the occult or Satanism itself. Since I've been around the JoS site for about two years, some of the lines I've heard really struck a chord with me and made them stand out in my mind.
Lets start with Nas. One of the greatest MC's to ever do it, period. He's most remembered for one of the greatest albums in Hip-hop, Illmatic. Off the song memory lane nas states, "My pen taps the paper and my brains blank.." Such words would mean nothing if I didnt hear the similarities in this line amoung the greatest MC's of all time. We'll get to that later.
In Nas's first debut on an album, was Large Professor's, Breaking Atoms. This was his first time to shine, at 17 years old, and he says, "When I was 12, I went to hell for snuffin Jesus.." What does it mean to snuff? Its basically when you push someone's head with force. It could also mean killing. During the same time period, he says "I'm wavin automatic guns at nuns." When later asked about these lines or at least, I'm waving automatic guns at nuns, in an interview he said he did it for attention, so it would stand out.
Now lets take a look at Rakim's lyrics. Rakim, an innovator of his time, one of the greatest lyricists, and could be considered the godfather of the golden age of hip-hop (90's) had this to say on the track Cold Feeling,
"I meditate and let the ancient spirits speak through the pen
So every word I display a true or a gem, or holdin the grim."
Interesting. He's talking about going into a trance state and letting "the ancient spirits" enter his body and write under the will of these spirits. I know in Satanism there's a word for it, and I've read in Maxine's sermons about doing this same sort of thing.
For my next piece of evidence, I'd like to submit exhibit C, from the song "Untouchables" by Rakim and DJ Eric B:
"Everything I said flows since my intro
I plant a thought extend and then grow
Holdin my pen tightly it might be
Controversy at first when I write the
chords of research don't just take it for granted
When I'm gone my mind remains a planet
If I keep buildin, and teach the children
So when they read in between the lines it's filled in
I break to meditate, not a peep, concentrate
till I'm deep awake, but not asleep
At the same time risin and advertisin
what is true, keep advised and you can stay wise"
Now if you cant see the Satanic meaning, there's something wrong with you lol.
"So when they read in between the lines, it's filled in."
Who are they? Is he talking to fellow Satanists? Can it be coincidence? Very doubtful.
"I break to meditate, not a peep, concentrate, till I'm deep awake, but not asleep."
We see the same theme. Going into a deep trance state, very deep as he says "till im deep awake, but not asleep". I'm sure some of the intermediate's can relate to this feeling, especially those advanced with trances.
One last thing about Ra before we examine another artist, he's dropping a new album called, "The Seventh Seal" in September this year where I've read, on the album cover, there is the sun right behind his head in the background. SEVENTH seal, then the sun right behind his head. Powerful meanings in Satanism, though the source for the album cover isnt completely reliable, we'll just have to wait and see.
Okay, this is going to be longer than I expected so I'm going to shorten it for the next few rappers.
Tupac:
"When I write rhymes, I go blind, and let the Lord do his thang." Quoted from Ghetto Gospel. Pac had many catholic themes in his songs but I cant help but think when he says Lord, he means Lord Satan, and when he says God, he means the One, True Creator God, Satan.
Also, from this line we see the same theme as nas's line "My pen taps the paper and my brain's blank."
Big L:
"On my skull the 666, no tricks
When I catch fits, my mom picks up the crucifix
And I kill chumps for the cheapest price
I'm rolling with Satan, not Jesus Christ
Enemies I got several done
Big L straight from hell, the motherfucking Devil's Son"
Quoted from the song Devil's Son.
While it has xian meanings about Satan, He is still praised in this song.
"The Big L is strictly gunplay, I run through church and pistol-whip the priest every Sunday"
I cant not laugh when I hear this line lol.
The Game
Song: My life
"Walk through the gates of Hell, see my Impala parked in front
With the high beams on, me and the Devil share chronic blunts"
Astrally? Its possible.
Big Pun:
Song: You Aint a Killer
"Then curse tu vida (your life), like a Brujeria (witch/witchcraft/black magick) verse
I'm worse than anything you ever been through
Sick in the head and mental
Essentially meant to be the soul frentic mental
When you awaken, your manhood'll be taken
Fakin like you Satan, when I'm the rhymin abomination"
Although he is saying "Faking like you Satan," which is the xian theme of Satan being a liar, He is still mentioned twice in the song. Pun also talks about manipulating energy.
Notrious BIG:
Song: Dead Wrong
"Hail Mary full of grace.. smack the bitch in the face;
Take her Gucci bag and the North Face
Off her back, yap her if she act"
"When I get dusted, I like to spread the blood like mustard
Trust it, my hardcore rain leaves you rusted
Move over Lucifer, I'm more ruthless, huh"
This is not saying anything bad about Satan. Biggie is just saying he's more ruthless, and he might be lol.
In the remix with Eminem, Em says:
"There's several different levels to Devil worshippin: horse's heads,
Human sacrifices, canibalism; candles and exorcism"
There are indeed several differnt levels for praising Satan. Meaning there are different sects, if you will, such as Traditional, Spiritual, and LaVeyian Satanism.
In conclusion, many of the greatest rappers of all time have something in common. That is Satan. There's a few examples I left out, this has gotten to be much longer than I expected it to be.
A common theme though, is that apparently some of the greatest lyricists go into a deep trance and let some being enter their body as a tool to inform... fellow Satanists? Well which ever way you interpret it you cannot deny Satan's influence as artists of a generation that will stand the test of time.
HAIL SATAN! AND THE GODS OF OLD!
Cheers~
