Retrieving information from past life(lives)

Ok, I have a slight issue, multiple testable solutions(which is good news), but I wanted to post this anyways:
My guardian, not named for the sake of leaving him out of this, has told me..something simple:"What you seek to do now, you have done before."...what that "thing" is, no. Let's not go there; it's safe, legit, and legal, but for the sake of avoiding arguments..just, no.
I have to peer into my past lives to find the relevant info. I am starting far back, coming forward..but man, I am OLD. I'm having problems skimming the info at a fast enough pace. Even looking for the more magically-oriented lives is strenuous to me.
I'm in no rush to accomplish this; I would like to make headway before the end of May, however, which is plenty of time. 
So far I am trying to astrally scribe/write into a book all the relevant info(and other magickal info into other books)..this is sluggish. Lots of the same info that I must manually 'read', more or less, to weed it out. I also cannot seem to view it in any other way; it's not a text document I can just control+f and look for it..no..it's not so simple.
I'm certain this was to protect it from being erased. I was..more or less powerful in a past life, and knew well enough that I would, in time, need this info..well, I do. so I KNOW I can get it, just having some issues.
Going to work on it tonight, but I wanted to post for a simple reason: others may have this question, and, if they do, maybe the answers here will help.YES I have done the "open the door and a book filled with the information is there", but, the book is in some kind of code. It doesn't look standard, in the sense, as I cannot even astrally translate it. It's symbols but they don't equate to pictures, or steps or ANYTHING USABLE...

Then, try to solving the code? If you have what you're trying to find, then do affirmations or whatever, in order to find/understand how you can solve the code. Once more, enter into a door (if it's the most convenient method for you) and say something like "I am entering in front of the source/solution of the code" etc.But hahahaha, I kind of laughed... Alright, thanks. Was able to get a lot of it figured out(unusually short amount of info, which is odd, considering how..simple my record made it seem. Even novices can do it, per those pages..)..Needs a bit more work to be finished, and I am practicing it again, but I can only hope it's correct info..I know its part of magick to get better, but I seem to dislike and distrust it when it seems..easy..

Please, how are you able to do this? I mean, tell me how you do it. You use the guideline on JoS? You just walk through a door for one past life and you see what? People? Or a whole replay of ur former life? I have tried, when I did walk through a shadowy door, I saw nothing but blackness. What I need to know is, is there a requirement that I need to meet before I do this meditation so I can be able to see meaningful stuffs? Or am I doing it wrong? But I'm thinking it should be easy cos its on beginner meditation category.

It's not easy; you have to be in a deep-deep trance in order to do it. Be focused and have no expectations (don't think of what you may see etc etc).You can also use runes if you can't do it otherwise.
