I am on the borderline of loving and hating raccoons. Those trash pandas can be cute but also a menace. I am in the process of buying the house I’ve lived in for 10-plus years — that’s a different story.

But today, a raccoon decided to fall through the drop ceiling in my kitchen. That furry lil’ bastard knocked over my container of oat meal ,knocked down some spices before I got it out the door .

I love raccoons, but not today — and it wouldn’t be the first time this has happened, either. I found the hole where it came from, and I ordered some supplies to take care of it.

I’m sure there is some meaningful thing the gods are trying to tell me, but having a raccoon fall through the ceiling wasn’t on my bingo card.

Raccoons are bros.

It is important to seal any holes where they could be coming in from, like along the edges of the roof or in crawlspaces. I guess that it would be better to do this at night when they are out looking for food, and not in the day time when they are sleeping if they are sleeping or living in your attic. During the day when they are probably sleeping, look up there to see if you can find them sleeping up there.

You can get the cage traps that do not hurt them in any way and just locks them in the cage. Bait it with any food like bread, cheese, peanut butter.

The problem is they are smart, they are determined, and they have hands. So they can open anything that requires hands to open.

When I first got my learner's permit and wasn't really allowed to drive yet. I drove with my friend to mcdonalds. There was a whole family of baby racoons on the other side of the fence at the edge of the parking lot. 1 or 2 parents and maybe 7 or 8 babies. I gave them 2 sets of large fries. They were so happy holding them with their hands.
