The enemies were outnumbered. But how could they whill kill them?
Do they wield magical powers? Technologies?

The Gods did not lose the war, but a battle. They fight on the astral, mostly, but they might have physical weaponry for civilizations that are close to the enemy's source.
Although everything is just a speculation when it comes to such topics.

Humanity was attacked 10000 BC (this we know for a fact), which was a direct consequence of the lost battle, or maybe this was the battle itself.
