Please, does anyone know who Mara is?

I still don't know.
I had a dream last winter that I saw the name Mara. A few days before that dream, I woke up into a trance and knew someone was beside me. So I'm thinking it was this Mara fellow. Wikipedia says he's a Hindu god or something.
Anyone know anything about what his alternate names are?
