is it looked on as offensive to go to a pagan celebration in order to
expand my knowledge on the subject.
would it anger the father if i went and conversed with them?

What celebration is that? Most pagan celebrations in the process of
being "christianized".

There is nothing wrong with attending a pagan celebration, especially
if u are doing it to familiarize urself with it.
