Merging conscious and shapeshifting

The page on merging consciousness says this method can be used for shapeshifting. What does shapeshifting mean exactly?

Shapeshifting means to change the shape of the soul. However you'll hear it used as changing the physical body; that's moreso biokinesis(think werewolf.)
then again they're both shapes, and they're both shifted separately so it's confusing.
