Most of the 1,500 monkeys held at Israel's Mazor breeding farm will eventually be sold to laboratories for use in toxicology tests. During the tests, the monkeys will be force fed drugs and chemicals, and all who survive the experiments will be euthanized. Other monkeys will be sold for use in torturous brain experiments involving immobilization, water deprivation and surgical removal of the top of the skull. Again, most surviving monkeys will be killed after the experiments are finished.
The monkeys held at Mazor breeding farm were separated from their families at a young age, causing extreme trauma for the young monkeys and their mothers. Young monkeys are visibly distressed and look for their mothers after being separated, and some die as a result of the stress.
Breeding farm managers view monkeys as nothing more than profits, despite their clear expressions of physical and emotional pain. Please urge Minister Erdan to outlaw monkey breeding farms in Israel.
