Over a week ago I found this video, which explains basic stuff about tcm. I am not sure if it is right what this person says in the second half when he starts talking about disease patterns corresponding with the yin & yang of the element.

And today I was looking for information on stress.
Stress can also be given through food and chemicals.
But what is new to me is that when people LACK the right micronutrients, on cellular level, this can cause harm to the DNA and GENMUTATIONS.
It didn't sound too vague but it basicly pointed that out in relation to the lesser functioning of lets say your liver in breaking down or transforming toxins so that it can be removed by the kidney or leave your body through the intestines, that the ability of the liver to do that would lessen, as the enzymes or whatever product is needed to break it down in the liver would either not be produced enough or not all or too low in quality.
Now you can also see this from a different angle. Toxins get in your body, it accumulates and then it overwhelms cells which causes the dna changes.
But if I read it like I did there, it seems to say that it first causes the change before the accumilation comes there because of the lack of nutrients to protect the cells from these harmful substances.
As for detoxing. The article mentions it briefly and calls it 'detoxing: know what you start with.
According to Van Stight, just detoxing isn't useful; it can disturb different biochemical processes (further). With detoxing you need to know exactly what you are doing. (Further) disturbing of biochemical processes can bring with it even more ailments.'
It doesn't say much, like I said, I had to translate it so I don't know if the word ailments was placed there correctly but it made sense.
I hope some of this was at least useful.
