Greetings Satanic family. I feel that it may at some point be helpful to have a general understanding of first aid/field tactical first aid. I had been trained as a youth in boyscouts, then again in the US Marine Corps--way more badass than the US Army for those that don't know, and I have applied my first aid knowledge on myself for various sorts of minor injuries.
I'll start off with the first 4 rules:
1) Start the breathing
2) Stop the bleeding
3) Secure the wound
4) Treat for shock
Note: The second step CAN be exchanged for the first step in rare cases of rapid blood loss.
However, in order to start the breathing, we are taught to keep the heart punping and to no longer breath into the person's mouth. The person should be laid flat on there back on level ground or with their head on the upper side of an incline. Pump their sternum/heart area vigorously, and help them roll to their right side when they gain consciousness and start coughing/vomiting. U roll them on their right side because the heart is slightly to the left and there is less pressure on the heart when the body is on the right side.
Stopping the bleeding asap is critical, especially for rapid blood loss. In the case of severed limbs, use as clean a cloth as possible to cover the nub and a belt or some type of strap to create a turniquett. For less severe wounds, use spit or clean water if available to clean the wound, then cover with as clean a cloth as possible and apply firm pressure. Be aware of puncuture wounds that may enter one side and exit the other. This should always be checked immediately, so as to stop the bleeding FROM BOTH SIDES. If availble, a plastic bag can be used to help make a good seal on the wound.
Tell the person to relax and breath calm and steady, NOT a good time to breath fast and deep, as this causes blood to flow faster and to risk unnecessary blood-loss.
Securing the wound by protecting it with layers of cloth, a board and strap, and other methods to achieve the goal of minimal movement of the injured area is usually a good idea. There are exceptions to the rule. Do not do as I have done and attempt to walk off a broken ankle or even a strained ankle or knee. "Walking it off" will not work and actually will do the opposite and make it worse. Trust me. Or not. Haha
Treat for shock. Keep the injure person warm, cover them or wrap them in a blanket or jacket if possible. If practical, have them lay on their back with their legs elevated at the knees. If in hot weather and practical, move the injured person to a cool spot or give them some shade. If in cold weather, do whatever is practical to keep them warm. Pay special attention to the hands and feet, which are prone to frost-bite. Do not bring them to fire or pour warm water. Use gentle massage and encourage movement/flexing hand and feet muscles if practical. U could even "massage" through a layer of boots/gloves using gentle patting, shaking and the warmth from ur breath.
I encourage everyone to learn what they can from textbooks and the internet about first aid and improvised/field tactical first aid.
It is determination and application of good knowledge that can keep u and ur comrades alive and able to recover.
