Hello! Setting up a physical altar is a personal preference. You don't have to do it if you live with your parents or somewhere unsafe like a dormitory. I'm saying this because you posted in Teens 4 Zeus forum.

If you have the space and the freedom, you can dedicate a corner for your meditations and rituals. Standard ritual begins with East. It should be reasonable if you are facing East when you are standing at your altar, but this is not a rule. You can choose any direction. After you decide where your altar will be, clean and bless the room. Here is Blessing for the Home by TGAI posted by Astrid.

Don't buy expensive things, at first at least. I do like luxury fabrics, scents, gold and silver but they are not necessary. Read this page: ADVANCED CONSECRATION OF RITUAL TOOLS & OTHER MATERIAL PROPS

Decorate it with candles, Gods's sigils, incense, crystals, et cetera. Personally I don't like smoke of the incense. Some of our members grow plants, flowers, and herbs. If you have a hobby like that, you can decorate your altar with flowers. I think it would look beautiful and smell good too. Basically, it is a small personal temple in your home. You can place a yoga cushion in front of your altar. People who have the ability for this can create pieces of art for decoration. Using clay, painting, carving, all is fine.

If I were a homeowner I'd love to build a space with Egyptian theme with God statues, especially Bastet and Maat. I don't want to invest too much emotionally and financially until I own a house.

You have freedom. Inspire from ancient temples. You can study how your ancestors used to pray. It should give inspiration.

Inside your mind is more important than the material sphere.
