Then, after you eat something, just clean up right after you are done.

I have a family of 5 with messy, sloppy, and dirty kids. You clean something, and 5 seconds later there is another mess.
Yes, we've tried implementing chores, but they are a little young, so they end up making it worse in the long run. This leads to my girl having a defeated attitude, and since I work full time I rely on her to make sure the home is in order, but she gives up half the time.
I do what I can, however.

I find it more convenient and much easier, to know where things are at when I keep my house clean and organized. The gods actually appreciate that! Especially if you're going to spell work.
