I was wondering what is the exact positions of the chakras? Are they along the spine, down the middle or at the front of the body? The chakra diagram on the JOS site shows all three. And how big are they suppose to be in size?
Also what chakra are we supposed to open first? The base or the third eye?

Well really is up to you but opening the third eye charka could be first one but only if you feel its right to do it. The THIRD EYE... Read the site more carefully.. It says to open your chakras as they're listed... The 6th chakra should be the last one, and before the 6th chakra, you should open your base chakra.
Obviously, the chakras are both in front, back and middle.
