If you buy from a reputable store with a warranty or from a good friend, there's no problem.Don't make dubious and risky transactions where functionality isn't guaranteed.Personally, I bought a lot of electronics during Mercury retrograde—I bought old but still relevant ones from friends who were wealthier than me and they were simply tired of them but in perfect condition. Or I bought them from good, large stores with a warranty—they've been fine for many years.

I think you should have a protection plan (many stores have them for a little extra) if you see a good deal now it's probably ok. If you see a really good deal maybe you want to buy it now but don't use it until retrograde is over.

I bought computer components during a Mercury rx because our taxes were just about to be raised so I rushed in. However, I had to replace two faulty components out of the box, and the retailer gave me a fuzz about it. Fortunately, consumers rights are well regulated here, I just had to insists with the correct words and eventually got my replacements, but it took 2+ weeks and unnecessary hurdles.
If you can avoid this, then it is generally advised to avoid. Notable exceptions always occur, of course (there can be many reasons)...
