The planetary squares are best done when the planet is in home/exalted sign. That has nothing to do with natal chart placement descriptions. Doing a Venus square when it is in Pisces for whatever goal you have, is not going to make you a Venus in Pisces person.

When you do something experimental it's on you, not on the meditation given on the JoS. Your problem had nothing to do with the JoS meditations, it was because of your own experiment.
