To all Zevists: we are going to do this frequently for posts in the Temple of Zeus. You are also welcome to join in!

The Rules and Goals:

One member will select a text to review, we will read it (on our own time but as a group overall). That person will make a new post about it, and others will also comment with our own insights.

This will help expand your own awareness and understanding of these topics, increase ability to write your thoughts and insights, and ensure we all make it through the updates in the ToZ.

Writing and reviewing helps to formulate our thoughts, and helps us remember and recall what we've read. Learning, not just skimming. Your overall comprehension skills will expand by participating in this project.

Whoever makes the most insightful reply, will have the honor of selecting the next text for us to review, but we will also try to ensure each participating member has a chance to select and write the first review.

It can be in the Advanced Philosophy section, Personalities, about one of our Gods, our Holidays, Ethics, Magick, and article in the Library... anything in the ToZ.

We will try to finish each page and make a reply, even just a short sentence or paragraph, within one week from the first post being published. Each thread will be made into an Announcement.

On the Foundation of Hierologia in Study and Meditative Experience

Hierologia cannot be improvised. It cannot proceed from enthusiasm alone, nor from belief alone, nor from the mere desire to speak well about the Gods. It must be founded upon two pillars that are equally indispensable and that reinforce one another without limit.

The first pillar is education and deep research: the rigorous study of the ancient texts, the mastery of the theological vocabulary, the familiarity with the historical record, the understanding of comparative tradition, the knowledge of the languages in which the sacred was originally expressed.

The Hierologia produced by the Hierologos who speaks without having studied is that of a well-meaning amateur whose speech, however sincere, lacks the precision that transforms good intention into transformative power. The second pillar is meditative experience: the direct, personal, sustained practice of communion with the Gods through meditation, ritual, prayer, and the cultivation of the inner faculties.

The Hierologos who has studied without having meditated is a scholar whose speech, however accurate, lacks the living charge that transforms information into revelation. Neither pillar alone is sufficient.

Study without meditation produces theology, which is speech about God from a distance. Meditation without study produces enthusiasm, which is speech about God without accuracy. Hierologia requires both: the scholar who meditates and the meditator who studies, united in a single soul that knows the Gods both through the text and through the silence behind the text.

For those who have not tried the Ancient Hymns, I know it can be daunting to recite a language you are not familiar with. Start slow, take your time, it becomes natural with repetition. It's exciting when you begin to recognize familiar words and God Names :)

The Prayer to Mousaios has many familiar names and leaves me feeling energized and peaceful 🙏

I love how walking is so emphasized in the meditation recommendations. A few years ago Zeus came to me and told me to go out to a nature park nearby and walk. So I began walking there nearly every day, and it helps the mind so much. Seeing passing scenery is beneficial for the physical brain as well.

When you log into Temple of Zeus with your account, there is a video to watch showing the features, titled "How your study works". You can make notes and highlight parts of texts, download your notes, bookmark your place if you have not finished reading a page, keep bookmarks, share the articles you read in a card with or without your own notes, and more.

Today, Moon is waxing in Capricorn, a great time to begin a working for career, social standing, responsibilities, etc.

Tuesday/Wednesday, depending on your location, is Fall Equinox. This is a great time to begin a major project. Moon will be waxing in Aquarius, but will go Void of Course about 8 hours after the Equinox begins.

Full Moon Eclipse in Pisces in around 23 hours from now. Stay alert when around other people in general, Pisces moon often brings out the crazy people.

This will be a nice time to meditate, or do something artistic/musical.
