Mind chatter is actively stopped through void meditation. If you start, it will be very hard to keep silence, however practicing it more leads to an increase of resistance. As another member here said, start practicing with Dot meditation.

Any position that makes you feel comfortable is good. You can meditate also if you lie down, however if you feel sleepy you can fall asleep. Personally I meditate with my legs crossed, but sitting for too long hurts my back at some point.
