Some of these look like the tarot cards, perhaps this is where WB Yeats got the inspiration from (he advised Pamela Coleman Smith for the illustrations). Then again, many of these people were involved in the occult so they may have had the same inspiration.

I see what you mean, especially with the one in the bottom right of Cleopatra, it's giving High Priestess vibes for sure, or the Empress :love:

That one is also similar to Queen of Wands, as she has a staff and there's a black "cat" in the form of a lion statue :)

I also see The Star, Chariot, 4 of Swords (although only 1 sword is shown, but it has the coffin). The second one is a mix of a few, such as The Sun, 6 of Pentacles or even 6 of Wands.

Another one that reminds me of the tarot; the top left. Reminds me of the World card, with all the different creatures and such. Another is the middle right, that one reminds me of Temperance, or even the Star. I love how these paintings evoke so many aspects of the tarot, especially since there are MANY variations of the cards throughout time since they first became popular. I myself have about 5 or 6 tarot decks, and one oracle deck. Each one is unique in itself, but they all carry the common theme of the original tarot. I love seeing all the different interpretations of the cards, especially in a specific deck I own called "The Somnia Tarot". The creator of the deck Nicolas Bruno, he experiences sleep paralysis and vivid nightmares, and he created a deck that evokes the spirits he sees during his dreams. He created a photography version of the deck, which was the original, then he released the illustrated version, which is the one I own. It is seriously the most beautiful deck I own, it's breathtaking :love:

I feel like John William Waterhouse, who I mentioned in the post among my favorite artists from this era, you would love his work. He paints a lot of Greek mythology, as well as Sandro Botticelli :love: I'll have to see if I can find a fantasy type artist, though.

Waterhouse has the most myth art, Botticelli does christian works as well, but also paints mythology. Botticelli is the one who painted the "Birth of Venus" 🤗

Wow, this artwork is so beautiful. It exudes mystical and alchemical energy. I especially love the painting with the Peacock. There is so much symbolism to be interpreted here - from the peacock to the star above her head and the Eagle.

Art was always meant to be sacred. Nothing like the degeneracy of the "modern art" movement.

Beauty like this can only come from a Satanic source.

I just had to share these paintings with you all, and these are just SOME of the works of art from this particular artist. I had never had the pleasure of seeing this artist's work before today, and I am in complete and utter awe. The website states about the artist, "Gustave Moreau was French symbolist painter, whose work was inspired by elements of Neoclassicism and Romanticism. He often painted mythological figures against highly detailed backdrops to evoke a sense of awe-inspiring grandeur." He lived from 1826 to 1898 and produced over 15,000 paintings throughout his lifetime. (WOW, that's incredible)
I absolutely adore art of this style, I wish artists such as these still existed as they did back then. The art culture has seemed to lose their way sadly, funny enough, this seemed to happen after the church got popular, and all the mythological figures all slowly turned to biblical characters. I wish Neoclassicism/Romanticism art would have experience a resurgence, because the sheer beauty of the art from this era is breathtaking.
Anyways, if anyone has any painters they adore who favored mythology and the like as their main focus, give some recommendations. I love artists such as John William Waterhouse, Sandro Botticelli, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, Nicolas Poussin, William Blake, and Frederic Leighton. So if anyone knows any other incredible artists such as these, let me know please. I want to purchase some canvas recreations of these artist's works one day, so any recommendations for artists is appreciated greatly!
