Hope it's OK to post about this here.
I posted about this project about a year ago. Back then I was doing a sidescrolling arcade-inspired action game, but has since then moved on from that into FPS.
Now it's going to be a retro-inspired action first person shooter. The name of this game is Cobra Assault, starring ficticious characters with names inspired by some forum members here.
The story is basically that an evil corporation named "Helix Dynamics" has created a zombie-virus, which has led to a world wide zombie outbreak disaster.
The characters Cobra, Lydia, Alex, Apollo and Scarlet have taken on the mission to save earth from this. Behind "Helix Dynamics" are ultimately reptilians, governed by grays - which will show up later on in the game.
I do not want to reveal too much though, and will let the video speak for itself. Hope you enjoy.
Other than what I said, there's things you can do to make the game make more sense conceptually and more unique. What I would personally do is make the player character not Cobra, that way you can introduce a level up system and introduce siddhis inspired skill trees. Keep the graphics as they are, make the gameplay the focus. You have a lot of things being introduced right away to the player, I would be keeping the introduction simpler and revealing information more gradually. The player character could be a promising cadet drafted to the front lines as a first responder, while Cobra acts as a sort of executive commander role. As far as lore, you could say humanity just recently unified after a very long and bloody civil war, and this alien invasion came after it as a response. You could mention that aliens pretended to be human and infiltrated humanity etc.
I could write this sort of thing all day.
