Let's say that someone successfully commits a high profile crime and gets off without a trace with some highly valuable/sensitive loot and is never even suspected, and he dies at a happy old age, what then?

Your question appears to have no meaning. What then is this really sucks for the people who had their things stolen from them.

@OAL- I think OP is taking about next-life karma and if there are any consequences in the afterlife or astral plane.

@OP - I very much doubt that you'll be judged by beings and castigated for what you've done. Was the act justified to someone who had it coming? I encourage you to look at the bigger picture and think of who all will be affected or suffer by your acts much later down the road. Will the outcome and overall consequences be positive for everyone?

I can tell you as a fact that negative acts are a consequence of carrying negative energies. Negative energies will without a doubt land you in a lower astral plane upon death. Whatever you do in this life will carry over to the next and affect its overall quality.

is that fact? well that means entire countries would be affected since whole cultures do tons of negative acts as normal such as race mixing or the wars that keep happening in the middle east etc.

You would gain more capacity for theft
And your karma would be to feel a certain need to steal compulsively, of course, depending on your chart
Don't take it as an absolute truth.
It's likely that someone like that would die and be reincarnated normally, because nature has no moral or ethical laws, nature just wants to expand and to expand it needs individuals who can withstand its unpredictability.
In other words, unfortunately you could gain some "good" ability or karma if you steal intelligently and live well afterwards.

It can even lead to a lower soul plane, in the sense of losing a lot of prana.
But that doesn't mean that he will suffer in any way, in this world, there are people with all the best characteristics and intelligences and beauties.
And the vast majority, when you look at them, are just arrogant NPCs with the worst of human nature.
No loyalty or kindness in their heart, no virtues, just someone very lucky with a lucky soul and lucky genes.
At the end of it all, this person will ascend to heaven without having done any good.
