Meditation questions

I find it very difficult to get into a trance while sitting up with a straight spine, but easier when lying down (even though it's not easy). But for really serious meditations I guess one should have a straight spine? So is that something I should focus on more?
I also wonder which breathing exercises are best prior meditation. I usually do some breath of fire and breathing through the left nostril. I also sometimes use soundwaves and think it can be a good complement/help. I think it's probably more difficult for the "average Joe" to meditate in a stressful big city and easier for someone who lives in a secluded calm area with surrounding nature etc. Should TV screens and video games be avoided also in order to meditate better?
I also wonder if affirmations are good for removing "mental blockages".

When you’re just starting out, practice trances in whatever way you can and get a grip on it. This helps to train your mind and clear thoughts. It doesn’t need to be perfect as you start out, just do your best. The whole point of trance is relaxing your mind while remaining aware. Trances can be difficult and are important to practice, they also feel great. You can do meditations during your trance or during a half trance after you come out of this, when your body and mind is relaxed and open.
