Question about the Kumbhaka Lunar Breath

I have a small question about the lunar breath on the JoS site. Do we do both sets of the breaths back to back, or do we just do one at a time, then rest for a while, and then start on the second set?

Like if I get done doing a few rounds of the inhale for 2sec, hold for 4 sec, etc, should I start doing the other alternate one right after? Or are they meant to be done separately at different times?

It says do the first set for several breaths, and follow with the second set for the same amount of breaths as you did with the first so do them one at a time.
