Number 72 Confusion

I'm in a bit of confusion when it comes to the number 72.
We have the 72 name RTR, to the jews its also known as the "72 angels"
Why do we have 72 Goetia demons? Why is the number 72 so common in both jewish and Satanic occult?
I know 7+2 is 9, the number of permanence, but is there anything else to it?
