Recipes for our Holidays

Hello dear Sisters, thank you very much for all the lovely recipes. I have the day off from work tomorrow, and I will be having a feast, as well as other celebrations.

I will be having the meatloaf, butternut squash casserole and the harvest spice bread!

I'll also be cooking some mushrooms, I feel that these are more of a Yule kind of thing (there are more wild mushrooms in winter)... But I felt like doing it anyway, with mushrooms bought at the market :) here's my contribution to this topic:

I have nearly all the ingredients to make the Apple Butternut Squash Casserole, just need to find pecans. And btw I read wrong, there is no sugar, only honey so that's fine :)

Here is another recipe, Spiced Apple Blackberry Hand Pies. These look beautiful!

Greetings and a Happy Mabon to you both and everyone!

Wish I'd logged in earlier to see this recipe. I LOOOOOVE blackberries.. oh well.

I couldn't get everything I needed for the casserole but Jrvan really wanted to make the turkey meatloaf, so we went with that and the harvest bread. 😋

Maybe I can do the casserole for the last harvest holiday of the year instead?? 🤔

Happy Mabon!

I made the casserole, it was amazing! It tasted kind of strange as I've never before had sage combined with clove etc, but it was so good, and the textures were perfect. I recommend making sure to get a piece of bacon and pecan with each bite of the squash or apple. I didn't find thick-cut bacon so I just cooked regular cut but more slices to even it up.

You can make it any time, or wait for the next harvest holiday as you mentioned :)

Turkey meatloaf is also perfect for this holiday :)

The turkey meatloaf was delicious!! I'm so glad we tried it. I honestly think it was the best meatloaf I've ever tasted.

I hope you all had a great time!

I made the turkey meatloaf, the casserole and the spice bread. I didn't really have the time to make the mushroom soup I shared earlier.

But everything was awesome, I really enjoyed all of it and my girlfriend loved it as well. The meatloaf was my favourite, it was sooo good, I served it with chestnuts and carrots.

Glad this thread has been useful for everyone :D Never had mushroom soup before, sadly the link doesn't work for me.
Mind reposting it, BlackOnyx? Would love to try it!

I was skeptical at first when Jrvan showed it to me because I'd never heard of it before, but MY GOSH this meatloaf tasted good!! I changed up the topping sauce because I'm not the biggest fan of plain ketchup, so I added BBQ and Worcestershire sauce to the ketchup topping. The combination gave it a slight spiciness to the meatloaf which was yummy : P Definitely making this traditional in our household haha.

For reference: 4 tbspoons of ketchup, 4 tbspoons of BBQ sauce, and 2 tbspoons of Worcestershire sauce. Whisked together and then spread over the top of the meatloaf before baking. 10/10.

I used pecans instead of walnuts for the harvest bread, it kinda reminded me of carrot cake

Sounds like everyone's had a wonderful holiday :D

Haha, awesome! I'm looking forward to it even more now. It's fun trying new combinations. Jrvan wants to add it to our "Recipes for Mabon" list for next year.

The turkey meatloaf is a must-try!! We're having more of the leftovers for dinner today.

Yeh that bread has so much sugar decided to leave it out. I dont want to have my teeth fall out. so much sugar just hurts to eat.

Also on the topic of what we are supposed to eat.. Some people have been pointing out a couplee of things to me.

One said 3 eggs a day and lots of veggies.
Another mentioned about the milk/meat thing. I just saw a summary of a farmers past in the NL.
They used to have small plots then they told farmers have one big plot which increased monoculture and then there was the diary and meat that was too much and they just promoted it to everyone to eat it.
Now the diet in the middle ages most likely wasnt great either. Even though some people say they ate better back then.

Anyway this topic isnt for sorting out the past.

Diet is such a hard thing. Everyone has different ideas about it, and the information on it all feels like it's changing back and forth all the time.

I don't normally eat a lot of sweet foods naturally, but I sure like to enjoy treats on holidays, so I figure, why not? lol

Mushroom soup is so good, I haven't had it in ages so I will try your recipe soon, as well as the turkey meatloaf :)

It's perfectly fine to indulge on sweets on occasion. Being too strict can cause blockages in the sacral chakra. Only when someone has life-threatening illnesses should someone be strict with their diet.

Hope this one works. I'm doing it for Halloween :)

Yep! That looks goooood. Thanks BlackOnyx!

I'll have to see if I can find some good recipes for Halloween. 🤔

I'm planning to try out this honey and sriracha pumpkin seed recipe I found.

Honey Sriracha Roasted Pumpkin Seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
1 tablespoon sriracha
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon pimenton (smoked paprika)
1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
1/8 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon salt
a couple of drops of apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon olive oil
DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven 300°F
Spread out seeds on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden.
Meanwhile, whisk together the remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. Pour the hot seeds into the sriracha mixture and stir to coat well.
Return the seeds to the baking sheet, spreading them out as best you can – they’ll be sticky. Bake for 5-10 additional minutes to caramelize the sauce on the seeds.
Remove from the oven and cool.
If not consuming immediately, spread out the seeds on a cooled baking sheet and allow to set up a bit before packaging. (Otherwise, they’ll tend to stick together in all of their caramelized goodness.)

Wonderful! Thank you BlackOnyx8 :)

I'm definitely attempting making the Yule log you shared for next year's Yule time. That looks so good!!
I've never had something like that before.
