Chart Hemisphere Emphasis

From Azazel's Astrology for Satanists:

The majority of the planets on the eastern half [the directions are backwards on an astrology chart] MC [Midheaven] to IC, this person is usually free to make their own way in life and they dislike any interference from others. They are independent, self-starters who rely upon themselves.

With the majority on the western half [IC to MC] there is a strong need for others. Others have a say regarding one's life, and in extreme cases, others can control the person's life. In rare cases, there can be dependence on others for survival, as in cases of physical handicaps.

With the majority in the northern [bottom half of the chart; the ascendant through the descendant], personal privacy is important here. This person needs time alone, along with a sense of security.

People who have the majority of their planets in the south [top half of the chart] are usually outgoing people, who are social. These people don't mind being the center of attention, or before the public. Most are extroverted and enjoy leadership roles

According to the above, the directions are backwards, which means that the first paragraph refers to the left half of the chart, while the second paragraph refers to the right half.

However, I believe it is exactly the opposite.

I know the charts of at least two people, including my own, where most of the planets are placed on the right half of the chart, and these people are more the independant type. I for example have always been a self-learner for most things and don't like to depend on even barber shops to get my hair and beard done, preferring to do it myself at home. Whatever is simple enough for me to learn and do, I prefer to do it myself.

In contrast, I know the chart of a person where most of the planets are placed on the left half of the chart, including two stelliums, and they are one of the most dependant people I've ever seen.

So, for anyone who is experienced enough in seeing this in charts, would you personally confirm or deny this?

I'm also aware that several other factors can influence this dependence on others thing.

I am no expert in this field, but I got curious and checked out a few charts of some friends of mine including my own.

I have a western hemisphere, and are supposed to be dependent on others but I am not. No one tells me what to do or get in my way. I like to do my own research/studies and get things done myself. I am very independent. Though, I used to be dependent as a teenager and do have shy tendencies. Also, I may at times look for others' opinions or point of view just to have a broader specter on things.

A friend of mine has most of his planets on the eastern half (MC) with a stellium and a few on the south (DC). This friend is extremely dependent on other people, however he is very able to think for himself and very intelligent that way.

Another friend has it spread on MC and IC, extremely self-sufficient, independent and outgoing. Introvert.

The last one I checked have almost all planets on the Northern hemisphere of the chart with a stellium, very secretive yes. But this is the most social friend I have and are almost always occupied with activites with friends and his work and so on. This friend too is extremely independent.

In my personal opinion, I think the Hemispheres are more like a guideline towards our personality traits and has a minor effect. When I looked at the planetary positions and AC of the natal charts, I could see more clearly why the people are like this and that. The planetary positions (signs, houses, degrees, aspects) have the strongest effect when it comes to the personality. Though this is just my personal opinion and theory.

Very interesting, thank you for your input.

The first thing I thought was: Either the charts I have observed were exceptions, or the ones you have observed are, haha.
But I agree with your theory. Planetary placements, especially chart ruler/s and stelliums, certainly must have more influence than the concentration of planets in specific hemispheres on the chart.

Also, I believe most of our natal chart points to strong tendencies in our life, rather than absolute truths.
As one member has described once, our chart is like a boat, and if we just let it drift, it will probably drift naturally towards the directions pointed by the planetary placements and everything else in it. But if we are aware of unpleasant things in our charts, or at least of unpleasant tendencies in our life, we have the power to negate these things and put effort into becoming different in whatever we want. In your case for example, overcoming the shy and dependent tendencies as a teenager (of course if anything else in your chart points to that, besides the hemisphere emphasis). So I think this makes it possible for us to actually become different than what our charts show, except for more fated details maybe.

Well then, so far the theory on the influence of hemispheres seems to be a bit divided in practical evidence.

My thoughts is prominent planets and or the chart ruler are in the other half it may have more effect.

I have majority on the western half and I do my own thing in life and hate interference but all my chart rulers (I have a sign intercepted) are in the eastern half.

I can tend to rely on others for physical and financial support but I have my own ideas and direction in life.

The other thing is I know someone who clearly all but one of her planets on the eastern side I just checked her chart and shes completely dependent on others more so than a lot of people i know to the point it frustrates me.

I am not sure that thing on the Joy of Satan is accurate.
