I've been visualizing the 3rd chakra as pointed down for years because there is an illustration of it on the jos, but when reading the necronomicon meditation on it, it says it's pointed up. Which one is it?

It is pointed downwards to catch the Amrita of the Soma Chakra.

In most cases down (3 chakra/sun chakra), I did read if one want´s do do black magic working (e.g. some necronomicon workings) and want to decrease the chance of connecting to the bad energy, one can align thear chakras all up. One does not have to do this, it is just a extra step like adding a mudra (handsign) while collecting energy or vibrating runes backwards.
