Behind our emotions, thoughts, behaviour, are the brain waves. The brain waves are produced by the communication between neurons in our brains. Depending on our state and mood, the brainwaves change.

There are five main categories of brain waves. Each category illustrates how fast or slow our brain waves move, according to their frequency; the brain rhythmic activity.

Gamma 38-42Hz:
These waves are the fastest and have the highest frequency (like a flute). They pass information rapidly, and are related with processing information from a variety of brain areas simultaneously.
The mind needs to be quiet to enter this state. When in this state, our consciousness and perception can be modulated, and it is related to expanded consciousness.

Beta 12-38Hz:
These waves occur when we are in a waking state of consciousness. This is when our attention is directed to the outside world,  when we are engaged in cognitive tasks, making decisions and attentive. Here, depending on the exact frequency we may daydream, stargaze, be focused on something and have thoughts with high complexity.

Alpha 8-12Hz:
These waves are dominant in trance and some meditative states. This is when the brain is resting, having flowing thoughts. This frequency is the "here and now", being present to the moment. Mind and body integration, calmness, alertness and mental coordination  are assisted during this frequency.

Theta 3-8Hz:
The dream sleep state has these waves dominant, and they also occur during deep meditation. During this state the body senses are withdrawn, and we are focused on the signals that come within. Intuition, memory, learning, information beyond our conscious awareness and vivid imagery find the outlet in this state. We enter this state when we drift off to sleep and when we wake up. The reason why we are open to anything spiritual exactly right after waking up, no matter if it is morning, afternoon etc, is that the body and mind are in a transitional state, and the brain waves change frequency from sleep to light trance state and then in the waking state, and this procedure takes place for around 1 to 30 minutes after waking up.

Delta 5-3Hz:
These waves are slow and loud, with a deep sound, low in frequency and like a drum beat penetrating. This is the stage where the dreamless sleep and deepest meditation are generated. This is the source of empathy. During this state, regeneration and healing can be significantly stimulated and this is the reason of the importance of deep restorative sleep in the healing process.

Infra-low is 0.5Hz:
The slowest activity of the brain.

During our daily lives and according to our needs we tend to swing from one state to the other. Some people, depending on what they face, can have imbalanced swings between the brainwave states.
Through meditation and yoga, our brainwaves are trained into balance.

As for the openess to the magic, during the night, when the Moon rules the sky, our minds connect with nature and tune into its frequency.
The right side of the brain and subconscious are more active during this time and the peak is after midnight until before the sunrise. In the morning everything linked to the right side of the brain is more "lethargic" again.

Al Jilwah: Chapter IV

"It is my desire that all my followers unite in a bond of unity, lest those who are without prevail against them." - Satan
