Arch-priest Leonid Kalinin , chairman of the art council for the construction of the temple , said that his advice was to decide on the portrayal of certain personalities; there was no agreement with these people. “The Art Council considers these images to be absolutely appropriate, reflecting the historical truth, from which one cannot involuntarily tear out pages,” he said, adding that there will also be portraits of Suvorov, Kutuzov and other major military leaders in the military church.
It was previously reported that the building will be decorated with stained-glass windows with patterns in the form of Russian and Soviet military awards. Their total area will be 1.5 thousand square meters.
The construction of the main temple of the Ministry of Defense began at the end of 2018 on the initiative of Shoigu. It should become the third highest church in the world. The opening is scheduled for May 9, 2020 and is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
