I saw this as a comment on a yahoo news Article I did not write it. This got a lot of thumbs up I am glad the word is getting out on how horrible communism is I just thought id share this here:

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO LIVE IN CUBA..(By a Cuban)

The Castro Government owns everything. So there are NO independent companies of offices or industries...NONE.

Those selected to work, work and get paid by the government at a rate of about $28 dollars a month. Those who work in hotels, restaurants, taxis etc, are actually working for The Government. Again there are no independent companies of any kind.

Cubans feed themselves via a ration book. For those that do not know how it works, it is a family book, that allows Cubans to get a ration of what is available. On a weekly basis, they go to a distribution area and make a line. In this line they will then find out what is given,,ONE ITEM. It may be a pound of sugar, or maybe a pound of flour, or a can of Russian Spam, or whatever is that they have that week. THERE ARE NO GROCERY STORES IN CUBA. Food is only available via a ration book. Some of them go into the country to get and trade products in the black market illegally. Lately they have such a shortage of food, that the government announced that the Cubans should try hunting for Alligators, and Jutia ( a type of rodent) They are also encouraged to incubate ostrich eggs, to harvest them for other eggs and ostrich meat. This is not part of a Cuban Diet.

Cubans are not allowed to go inside a hotel or a restaurant that is slated for tourists. They are not even permitted to walk in the door. They are only allowed to go in the lower class hostels or "paladares", which are private houses that sell food. Barrs also for tourist are off limit to Cuban Citizens.

Cubans own no properties. Where ever they live it is owned by the State. When you see a Cuban selling or renting a property, they are a front for the government.

Cubans are not allowed to travel. Those whom have families in The US or abroad can pay for a visa (thousands of dollars) and always they must leave a family member behind as collateral, if the visa holder does not return, that person that stays in The Island will be arrested. Even if they get money from relatives abroad, they will not be able to leave. This is why they risk their lives on rickety old wood boats in the Florida Straights. Many have died there.

Freedoms are few and scarce. Every block has a member of the Communist Committee which is looking night and day the activities of the block. They can gall a member of The G2 police and they will pick you up for suspicion. When Raul or any politician is giving a speech, they send busses with roll lists of names, block by block, to pick up people, that will go and cheer and applaud. This forces people that may seem to be in favor of the government.
Every month, citizens are selected to go to a forced agricultural mission, where man and women are sent to the fields to harvest things like tobacco and sugarcane. Then they all sleep together in communal tents without privacy. They have communal bathrooms and sleep in the same room. So, they may chose your mother one time, your brother another, your wife another all on their own for a long weekend of forced work for the State.

The rest of the Cubans that do not work for the government spend the day in the park, or at the baseball stadium or just hanging out on the street. nothing to do, nowhere to go.

There are no external internet, only within the island. No external cellphone service, only within the island. No movies, only a Russian 1960s flick once in a while, There is no beer, only a mix called CHISPA made with kerosene and alcohol, which kills the lungs. No department stores, as there is nothing to buy and no money. You are give via the ration book one pair of shoes (all the same color and style) once a year, one underwear, one t-shirt, two pairs of socks. all the same for everyone.

This is the daily lives of Cubans. Do you want to live like this? Should they not deserve freedom to chose how they want to live? Do you now understand that when you go to vacation to Cuba you are empowering the government to continue to abuse their citizens? Say no to vacations in Cuba and demand the United Nations to intervean with a vote of free elections that can be managed and supervised by the UN. This would allow people to freely chose without repression.
