i wanted to summon a demon with a quija board, but i was wondering if i have to be open all the way for it to be successful? and if im not open all the way will a demon still communicate with me? thank you!

There's several things to consider when using an Ouija board:
1. Always, without fail, cleanse your aura and program it for protection, even if you already do this as a matter of course each day, do it again prior to using the board.
2. Make sure you have dedicated the board to Satan's service. This need not be long or involved. Following those two steps will greatly reduce the chances of an unwanted entity or impostor taking over.
I'm not sure what you mean by "...open all the way". Are you talking about open chakras, an open mind, or what ... Both are ideal. You don't just pick up an Ouija board and decide to get some answers; the above preparation is vital. But on the other hand, you also don't have to be highly advanced in order to use the board to communicate with Demons. Don't expect "instant" results, though, if you are brand new to this. It can (usually doesn't but just be mindful) sometimes take a few sessions...
