NEW - AstroChronos

AvatarDesdemona_6661 min to read

What:

Application for calculating planetary hours, similar to old ChronosXP.

Why:

ChronosXP still works, but development seems to have stopped. Also, there is no ChronosXP for Mac, Linux, Android and iOS, and those are coming too.

How:
It's simple. On Windows, only requirement is .NET 6.0.

First version will be for Windows made in WPF. There will also be version made in WinUI 3, with support for dark theme and visual effects of Windows 10 and 11.

Next on the list are Linux, Mac and Android versions. iOS version might come eventually, but Apple wants $99 per year in order to host your app on their store, and I have to weigh that one out first. However, if people really want it, it will happen, one way or another.

Share all your suggestions and potential problems encountered in this thread.

Where's the source code?

Coming soon, will be hosted on Bitbucket, most likely.

if i chose a place 40 miles away from me does this program still work? my city is not in it

Sorry for late reply.

It does somewhat. 40 miles can be a difference of few minutes. I guess I should include manual location entry as well for cases like this.

Version 1.0.1

Fixes:

- fixed the timezone bug that would incorrectly display the hours for certain timezones

Changes:

- different installer (changed from InnoSetup to Nullsoft Installer). It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to uninstall the old version of the app before installing this one.

(I have sincerely thought of leaving this and never returning to it again, but since people seem to be using it, I cannot just turn my back on them.)

Update 1.0.2

Changes:

Behavior change, opening hours view now displays hours for current planetary day, not current solar day.

(Apologies for issuing update this early, this was meant to make it into the previous update.)

As with previous, if you are coming from old version of AstroChronos, it is highly recommended to uninstall it before installing this one. If not, then you just run this installer and that's it, you're set.

New release: 1.1.0

- Added option to manually enter coordinates
- A slight redesign (mostly feels and functions the same. Datepicker and buttons moved to the bottom due to ergonomic reasons)

(Note: due to change in configuration files, the app will ask you for location again upon relaunch. My sincere apologies for this inconvenience.)

In the next version: dark mode and few other things that I can think of or that may get suggested by you.

Any feedback and suggestions are welcome.

I am a software engineering student (hc666 suggested I get into it few years ago). I can provide any kind of help if you need it.

Thank you!

This is a small project, so I can manage it on my own for now.

But once again, thank you for your help offer, that's very kind.
