The Science Behind Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is one of those subjects that is greatly misunderstood. Every “guru” out there seems to preach their own thing without ever explaining why they do what they do or why it has to be done their way instead of another. I believe most of these people are simply ignorant and don’t know what they are doing.

Remember, everything of the occult can be explained scientifically. This is by no means all there is to it, but it is the main principle on which Kundalini Yoga is based.

Life is in the Breath” — Thoth

The above quote has many interpretations, one of which has to do with the craniosacral rhythm. The cranium [skull] and pelvis are connected by the spine. Every time you inhale, the sacrum flexes back, and when you exhale, it flexes forward. At the same time, when you inhale, the sutures of your skull open up, and when you exhale, they close. This acts as a pumping mechanism for the cerebrospinal fluid.

It makes sense then that flexing the spine back and forth while simultaneously breathing in and out, as in most Kundalini Yoga kriyas, accelerates the flow of spinal fluid. Why is this important? If you look at the composition of cerebrospinal fluid, it's made up of proteins and salts in solution. When you put proteins and salts in solution, they develop a charge.

So, what happens when you accelerate charged molecules? You create an electromagnetic field along their axis, and in the case of the human spine, that is straight up. The faster the charged molecules, the stronger the field. Movements in Kundalini Yoga are rapid for this very reason.

[In the animation above, the blue circle represents the accelerating cerebrospinal fluid in the spine, and the red circle is the electromagnetic field generated by it. Ignore the “progress bar” in the circles; this animation is made to show time dilation, and I couldn't find a better example.]

When you contract certain muscles [as with holding a bandha] and hold your breath, you’re increasing the pressure inside your spinal column, further accelerating the flow of spinal fluid.

All this contributes to generating a strong electromagnetic field that begins to draw energy from the chakras up the Sushumna nadi and eventually out the crown.

If you are familiar with the information on the ToZ website, this should all be ringing bells. I hope this paints a vivid mental picture of what proper Kundalini Yoga looks like. By knowing the how and the why, you will naturally understand what to do and what not to do.

Don’t just go through the motions and flop around mindlessly. Kundalini Yoga is to be practiced consciously. Every breath and movement must have your full attention. This is what separates one from the sea of pretenders.

Ive always follow my intuition when comes to spiritual, mental and physical matters. The same way mi intuition tells me to eat an apple this morning, training certain way, focusing on certain chakra or doing breathing exercises, this intuition has served me well, now having knowledge like this + intuition, makes you have a sparking light on how should it work a godhead. Thank you for this post!

What about causing the spinal energy to spin at the speed of light continually.? I get a buzz from it. It world be nice if one can do this at the correct speed for long enough to reverse aging.

please remember i ask this out of a state of ignorance. I've always been told that the sutures in our skulls fuze together so by logic they shouldn't move. I understand that the gil you used is some kind of odd exageration. i just don't understand why or how they would move simply because your breathing?

They fuse together but the skull is malleable as it is not fused together like steel plates.

Yes, the illustration is very exaggerated, the movement is very little. This as a subject in itself is very obscure and not well documented online at all, it's hard to find a proper scientific paper on it.

thank you Power of Justice and Henu the great for your responce. I understand it a tad better and also why i haven't heard of this kind of movement before. That helps me grasp the original post much better- in every anatomy class or book they have made the suture fusion seem like steel plates but i do tend to forget that our bones do have a spongy quality to them to an extent- shock absorbers- thank you for reminding me of this.
I am always fascinated by learning more about the human body and mind- so much we think we know but it turns out we don't.

Hail Father Zeus

This is extremely interesting and very well presented, so that people who have the bare minimum knowledge in science can understand.
Thank you very much for sharing!
