Do we have to know the backstory for a God/Goddess to listen to and recite their mantras? Also, is worship required for these Gods/Goddesses? Will the mantra still work if we don't know the story?

God Names are words of power, they will work regardless of how much you know about them. No God of ours demands worship, but if you choose to do that, there's no problem with that.
