I was absolutely sure that a girl who flirted with me back in high school (2021) would be happy to hear from me. I lived with the thought of her for four years, convinced that we had some kind of deep connection.
I have severe social anxiety, have no friends, and usually hide behind anonymous accounts. To reach out to her, I had to overcome a lot. I created a real profile and uploaded a photo of my face for the first time ever.
I wrote to her. And guess what? She didn't even respond.
I'm disappointed, but mostly I feel like an idiot. I realized I spent four years living in my own fantasies, believing in a connection that simply didn't exist in reality.
Now go and be bold with a bunch of other women you like like all men have across history. Ditch anonymity and keep fantasies to a controllable level. Your anxiety is because you have little experience, it has become a self-propelling, isolated circuit where you imagine the worst scenario continually. It's like if you tried to ride a bike, it went wrong the first time after years of agonizing, and then you never pick up a bike again. Isn't that absurd?
You're assuming she rejected you, when like any human, she probably has eight hundred other things going on in her life, and someone from high school is not on the top of the list. Would someone from five years ago occupy prominence in your mind?
Even if she does reject and hate you, so what? Move on, talk to other people. You cannot sit around wasting four years on someone who is in all likelihood just average.
