Banishing Restaurants

Hello everyone.

This message is not a suggestion but a topic for discussion.

I recently started working in a fast food restaurant and I am beat. It is the most stressful job I've ever done in my life - and from what I've heard from cooks and other people (not working in fast food but other restaurants and cafeterias), this whole department is always very stressful.

There is also another thing... When the restaurant is nearing its closing hour, if there are any extra foods left, we must throw them away. We can also eat on the spot, but we still need to throw away what's left (there's always a lot left). Fast food can't be eaten cold (or re-warmed) anyway.

I feel sickened by the realization of how much meat is being thrown away. It's like, literally, killing animals for nothing.

So, I am curious as to how it could ever be possible to have a restaurant (especially in a city, when there are always many people) and not be stressful working there, or minimizing the food loss, at the end of the day.

For the latter, I know that we can say "I only have X and Y food left", but STILL, we are forced to fry more of X, Y meat, otherwise we might as well close earlier than our appointed time because we've used all cooked/fried meat.

I don't see any way that there won't be food leftovers for the garbage, at the end of the day. (And I'm talking about fast food, that can't be eaten when it goes cold)

What is your opinion about all this?

I personally enjoy eating outside once in a while and definitely sitting at a cafeteria. But after seeing how stressful it is like, from the inside... I don't know. I don't feel so good doing it anymore.

I understand that the owners of those restaurants/cafeterias need costumers in order to make money, but it's always extremely stressful for the staff.

I am also aware that fast food is very unhealthy, and it would probably be a very good idea (in an ideal world) to banish fast food as a whole. But we still have the usual restaurants with home-cooked food and cafeterias that have a lot of stress (and maybe also throw away leftovers? Hopefully not).
 
Create a service that sells leftovers for a reduced price. Where I live, there already exists such a service. For the job market, I would assume that the situation improves broadly over time in all sectors once the enemy influence gets taken out and a new system is built instead.

For the time being, hanging on must be done.
 
Any leftovers should be free to take after the closing for a hour. It think they don't do that because well Jews do not like to be beneficially efficient for their environment, and all the local homeless people would probably live near the restaurant but whatever.

The reason why there are so many people in (fast food) restaurants, is because they have no time to cook, or they simply can't. So there is probably where the problem is rooted.

As I know there where no restaurant like places in ancient times, so we probably don't need them.
 
It is quite sad that many people seem to not care about the health effects of fast food. When I have discussed this with people I know in real life, most people I know still eat it fairly regularly, even when they agree it is "bad."

I can whip up a meal in 5-10 minutes as long as I have a stove.

I have worked in a restaurant, both as a waiter and as help in the kitchen. I think it depends on the workplace, in both of the restaurants the first week was a bit stressful, but then I just adapted to stress and overcame it with a positive attitude and a social approach in the workplace. Actually it was stressful only at the first restaurant, for a bit. I also do know restaurants where people genuinely enjoy their job and are not stressed at all. But it's a matter of perspective, you might be thinking, I am wasting so much time here instead of meditating!! Which is not wrong, but you can also think, this place is giving me the chance to meditate under a roof with my stomach full!!
 
There is also the possibility that working in a restaurant is just not for you. Which you should atleast give 3-4 weeks to see if that is true.

It's addictive. Corporate fast food is also designed to be addictive, and know how to light up the palate in order to maximize dopamine production. The brands are also designed to create a feeling of hunger and draw people in. The red, yellow and orange colors stimulate appetite. They have also, in a way, become a cultural and nostalgic place for alot of people.

Also, people are doped up from constant bombardment of stimulation, information, entertainment and novelty, making people more likely to pursue the paths of least resistance, which means doordashing McDonalds to their doorstep as they vegetate on a sofa in front of netflix & tiktok.

See if you can donate it to local foodbanks. They can come pick up the food that you would otherwise throw away and distribute it to the community. Your boss will probably like this as it's a charitable act and could therefore serve as a tax writeoff.

If you're at a major chain then maybe there won't be as much flexibility but it's worth pitching to the manager.

Does this food have nutritional value, or is it goyslop?

I heard that homeless used to raid large commercial bins from food shops/restaurants, and then (((TPTB))) decided to lock the bins to prevent this from happening.

It is true here, at least. Major grocery stores have their bins locked or otherwise inaccessible to the public. But on the bright side, they also gather a lot of their out-of-date groceries to give away for free through donation organizations. Perhaps this is for the best when high standards in hygiene and safety are in mind.

Before this was more common than today, I remember hearing from some a few times that they would get some nice loot from dumpster diving. Like expensive meats and so on. You can still read news articles where this practice is mentioned. But I would argue that the practice of donation is much better in many ways than leaving dumpsters open for grabs for everyone.
 
Hello everyone and thank you for responding to this topic.

For those of you who said that the reason I feel that way (about being stressed on the job) is because I probably don't enjoy working in this department, I'd like to note that I am a cashier. I do not work in the kitchen - I've tried it and, no, I actually didn't enjoy it at all.

However, the profession of cook is the most stressful in the world - regardless of whether people enjoy doing it or not. I know a cook who loves his job, yet he admits that it is especially stressful.

As for donating the food, unfortunately the owner of the stores doesn't really care about it.

Yes, in an ideal world, people would have more time to cook (and perhaps even the desire to do so), and (hopefully) they wouldn't horde like wild, starving beasts outside a fast (or not) food restaurant. This is a comforting thought.

That is the culture of the restaurant atmosphere. I worked at one briefly in a kitchen and I told myself I wasn't going to get squirrely like everyone else and I wasn't going to let this job put stress on my cardiovascular system. Needless to say other people picked up on my different energy and didn't like it even though my performance was as good as theirs. It's not uncommon for restaurant workers to use drugs, either.

I would find another job. Sorry to hear of your struggle. Food service Jobs probably are one of the fastest paced and most hectic ones.

Look for an apprenticeship if you can, unless you're planning on going to college. From my understanding, employers have been changing and instead of looking for just degrees, will also hire people who simply possess the necessary skills. We're not completely there yet but it's starting to happen.

Find what you're interested in and if it's going to take you a while then bide your time, learn from the mistakes of others and don't put your 2 weeks in or quit until you have another job lined up.
