Imprisoned or bound means one is forced within certain parameters. These parameters don't mean one doesn't exist or that they don't hold power, it means they are kept from something; in that case, interaction with the world and the people's, and denial of this contact severs the Gods from the consciousness of mankind, rendering them "bound".
